Paul Mero, longtime president of the conservative Sutherland Institute think tank, is leaving the organization after 14 years.
In an email blast on Tuesday, Chairman of the Board Stanford Swim announced Mero's departure from the group.
We have expressed to Paul – and want you to know also – that we are grateful for the 14 years of dedicated service Paul has given to Sutherland. Under his leadership, the Institute has become the most influential conservative voice in Utah.
“Disagreements often arise between a CEO and board, and this is what happened here,” Paul said. “While disappointing, it became necessary. I have enjoyed every success and learned from every failure. Utah is a better place to live, work and raise a family because of Sutherland Institute.”
Mero served as a Congressional staffer from 1987 to 1997. In 1998, Mero was the Executive Vice-President for the Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society in Illinois.
The email did not say anything about a timeline for finding a replacement for Mero.
