Chaffetz Calls for IRS Chief’s Head

House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz says John Koskinen should resign or be impeached for stonewalling Congress’s efforts to investigate the IRS’s inappropriate targeting of Tea Party groups.

Reports The Washington Post:

Chaffetz, in a statement, said the IRS, under Koskinen, has “failed to take seriously his duty” to comply with committee subpoenas and to provide documents — including e-mails sent and received by Lois Lerner, the IRS administrator at the center of the targeting scandal. Chaffetz also alleged that Koskinen made false statements to the committee, including a claim that all documents related to the probe had been preserved since its initiation.

Recently, a Treasury Department watchdog reported that it had found more than 1,000 e-mails that the IRS had failed to turn over to the committee, and that tens of thousands more may have been destroyed. Koskinen had blamed “technical glitches” for the missing e-mails.

Said Chaffetz, “We will pursue all constitutional remedies at our disposal, including potential contempt proceedings or perhaps impeachment of Commissioner Koskinen.”
