Smith’s donates $11 Million to feed the hungry in 2021

Smith’s Food & Drug Stores has donated $11.7 million in cash, gift cards and food products to more than 3,800 non-profit organizations in seven western states in 2021. The donation from Smith’s supports the company’s visionary Zero Hunger | Zero Waste plan which is aiming to end hunger in communities and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.

Smith’s corporate contributions, in partnership with associates, customers and suppliers, supported key focus areas such as fighting hunger, sustainability, diversity & inclusion, health & nutrition..

Donations also come from the Smith’s Inspiring Donations Program which is open to any 501c3 organization simply by enrolling online at www.smithsfoodanddrug.com. Supporters link their rewards card to a favorite charity and cardholders’ purchases are combined to earn a quarterly donation for the organization.

“Smith’s is gratified by the loyalty of our customers to drive donations to local nonprofits who are doing great work in our store communities,” said Aubriana Martindale, Smith’s Division Corporate Affairs Manager. “The Smith’s Inspiring Donations Program helps customers effectively support a cause that is most important to them.”

Everyday Smith’s stores donate unsaleable, yet still nutritious fresh foods such as meat, dairy and produce through the company’s  Food Rescue Program. By doing so, food is kept from landfills and donated to local food banks to supplement the more stable shelf items given out to pantries and feeding kitchens.
