Democratic caucus statement on HJR2

Today, the Utah House of Representatives passed HJR 2 on a party line vote. This resolution, which still needs Senate approval to go into effect, would put politicians in the middle of the judicial process in order to retroactively lift the injunction currently blocking the trigger ban on abortion. The Utah Democratic Party issued the following statement in response:

“The Republican supermajority will stop at nothing to implement their extreme abortion ban. Rather than respecting the judicial process and waiting for the lawsuit challenging the ban to move through the courts in a fair and balanced manner, they are taking the extraordinary step of retroactively changing the rules to get their way. This is yet another example of Republican government overreach, and the lengths that these politicians will go to to exert control over the private, intimate medical decisions of our families should concern every Utahn.”

We encourage every Utahn who believes that the supermajority should not be changing the rules of the judicial system retroactively to get the outcome they want to contact their Senator and ask them to vote NO on HJR 2.
