Granite Police Department detectives, in coordination West Valley City Police, have detained the suspect of the assault and attempted kidnapping incident which occurred at Whittier Elementary School on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The suspect is a 16-year-old male who is also a student at a non-traditional program in the Granite School District who lives in the area near the school where the assault took place.
Police received several tips since releasing photos and video surveillance of the suspect. A solid lead was developed from the recent Smith’s surveillance video that was released. Shortly after, the suspect was located and booked into juvenile detention.
We are extremely grateful for the investigative efforts of Granite and West Valley City Police detectives and members of the community who came forward with tips and information over the past 48-hours.
