Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber, issued the following statement regarding the recent announcement of a potential MLB expansion to the Salt Lake City market:
“Salt Lake City is primed and ready to welcome Major League Baseball to our great city and state. Utah has a long history of successfully hosting global sporting events, such as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and, most recently, the 2023 NBA All-Star Game; this expansion would be no different. We also have a large, enthusiastic and ever-growing fanbase of sports fans with the Salt Lake Bees, Utah Jazz, Real Salt Lake, Utah Utes and BYU Cougars, just to name a few.
“The up-and-coming Power District is an optimal choice for the location of the new stadium for its size and focus on mixed-use development, including a new headquarters for Rocky Mountain Power, commercial/office space and multi-family housing, as well as proximity to downtown Salt Lake City and public transportation. In addition, our infrastructure is strong with the expansion and renovation of the Salt Lake City International Airport and the Delta Air Lines hub agreement for the next twenty years.
“Utah has one of the strongest economies in the nation, with low unemployment, high job growth, and a diverse economy. We are also one of the fastest-growing states with the youngest population in a top-30 media market. Not only that, our quality of life, family-friendly values and love of baseball is unparalleled.
