Today, the Legislative Management Committee approved the interim committee schedule, assignments and study items for 2023.
“The reason Utah is the best-managed state in the nation is because we have a process where elected officials and the public methodically vet potential legislation throughout the year,” said President J. Stuart Adams. “In the Legislature, we value constituent input because good public participation drives good legislation. Interim meetings are an important part of the legislative process. The time between sessions allows legislators to dive into complex issues while getting feedback from Utahns. I encourage all Utahns to participate in interim meetings, especially since we have enhanced virtual options.”
“The success of the legislative session is due in large part to the work we do during the interim,” said Speaker Brad Wilson. “Legislators will spend the next several months thoroughly studying important issues, working to address the most critical needs, and exploring the greatest areas of opportunity in preparation for next year’s 45-day session.”
Interim meetings provide legislators the chance to review and study policy items for the next general session. Interim proceedings will be live-streamed, recorded and shared publicly on le.utah.gov. Meetings are open to the public. Utahns can provide input either virtually or in person.
All interim committee meetings will be held at the Capitol complex with the exception of September interim. September interim meetings will be held in St. George, allowing the opportunity for citizens in Southern Utah to participate in person.
2023 Interim Schedule:
- May 16-17 at the Utah State Capitol
- June 13-14 at the Utah State Capitol
- August 8-9 at the Utah State Capitol
- September 18 in St. George
- October 10-11 at the Utah State Capitol
- November 14-15 at the Utah State Capitol
- December 5 at the Utah State Capitol
