The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 9 a.m. at the board’s office, 250 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Those wishing to provide public comment at the meeting should send their request to [email protected]. Written public comments can be sent to [email protected] at any time.
Board committees will meet sequentially beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 5. Finance Committee will only be online. Those who want to comment on committee agenda items should email the secretary of the committee they wish to address before the meeting. Public comment will be at the discretion of the committee chairs. Law and Licensing Committee begins at 9 a.m. and Finance Committee begins at 9:15 a.m. There will be no Standards and Assessment Committee meeting on Friday. Following committee meetings, the board will meet as the governing board of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind at 1 p.m. The board will also hold a study session focusing on USBE’s mission and vision for board members at 2 p.m. All meetings will be streamed online.
Highlights of this month’s board meeting include:
- Potential approval of Supplemental Standards for Science and English Language Arts.
- Consideration of a board rule waiver request from American Preparatory Academy.
- Potential approval of a charter school authorizers application from Utah Tech University.
