UVU’s General Counsel receives prestigious corporate counsel award from Utah Business Magazine

Utah Valley University’s (UVU) General Counsel, Clark Collings, was recognized as one of the top in-house legal attorneys in Utah with a Utah Business Magazine 2023 Corporate Counsel award at a banquet in Salt Lake City on April 28.

As UVU’s general counsel, Collings oversees a team of five attorneys and three staff members and is responsible for all university legal services, including litigation, contract development, policy review, settlement negotiations, government relations, intellectual property rights, internal employment matters, and risk management and compliance. He was named UVU’s general counsel in July 2020.

“Clark is an intelligent problem solver who strives to find solutions that are legally sound, ethically guided, and in the best interest of the university, its 43,000 students, 5,000 faculty and staff members, and the community it serves,” said Wayne Vaught, provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs at UVU. “We are fortunate to have him at UVU.”

Collings’ legal expertise was showcased from 2020 to 2021 as he helped UVU navigate the legal, ethical, and operational challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also helped draft and implement UVU’s Vision 2030 strategic plan and led successful campuswide initiatives to streamline internal investigations and mandatory training.

He has been instrumental in establishing affiliation agreements with large healthcare providers, international universities, and global corporations to the benefit of students at UVU. In the past two years, he assisted with the execution of more than $100 million in donations to the school and has facilitated land and real estate acquisitions for campus expansion in four cities.
