Utah graduation rates show consistent growth

A report released by the Utah State Board of Education shows improved graduation rates across most student groups in the state. Utah’s total graduation rate for the 2023 cohort is 88.3%.  Over the past five years, the state’s graduation rate has increased steadily, with an average of 88.13%. Utah’s graduation rate has been consistently higher than the national average.

Moreover, six of the nine reported student groups increased their graduation rate from 2022. The White student group had the highest graduation rate this year, with 90.67% meeting graduation requirements. The Pacific Islander student group had the most growth from 2022 to 2023, increasing from 80.05% of students graduating to 82.31% in 2023. The African American and Black student group has seen the greatest improvement over the last few years, with a 7% increase since 2017.

“I am proud to see a positive shift in our educational landscape, as more students are deciding to stay in school and view graduation as a gateway to future opportunities. This progress is a testament to our educators’ dedication to creating a supportive learning environment that empowers Utah’s students to overcome challenges and reach their full potential,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson.
