U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) today applauded the passage of two Utah priorities out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee: the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins Recovery Act and the Great Salt Lake Stewardship Act.
“I thank the Committee for considering these important pieces of legislation for our state,” Senator Romney said. “One of these measures will support Utah’s efforts to recover threatened and endangered fish species in the Upper Colorado and San Juan Rivers by providing the necessary tools to comply with complicated federal mandates. The other will support water conservation efforts in the Great Salt Lake Basin and help Utah fulfill its critical water needs. I urge my colleagues to support these measures when they come to the Senate floor, and hope we can get them signed into law soon.”

The Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins Recovery Act: Legislation introduced by Senators Romney and John Hickenlooper (D-CO) to continue protecting four threatened and endangered native fish species in the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins by extending conservation programs for one year to allow Upper Basin communities the time to develop a long-term management plan.
The Great Salt Lake Stewardship Act: Legislation cosponsored by Senator Romney to amend the Central Utah Completion Act to authorize expenditures for the conduct of certain water conservation measures in the Great Salt Lake Basin, and for other purposes.
