2024 Martin Luther King Day Beloved Community celebration at the state Capitol

As we welcome the new year, join us at the 2024 Martin Luther King Day Celebration in Utah. Let’s celebrate unity, upliftment, and the ongoing work for equity. 

Event Details:

  • Date & Time: Monday, January 15, 2024
  • Community Gathering & Celebration Walk: 9:30 am @ Utah State Capitol
  • Community Choir Concert: Noon @ The Gateway
  • Community Service Project (Donation Center): Noon @ The Gateway

The Celebration will kick off at 9:30 am with a Community Gathering at the Utah State Capitol, the Celebration program begins at 10:00 am and will feature inspiring messages from community leaders and elected officials. The program includes a diverse range of activities, such as readings of Dr. King’s I have a Dream speech by local youth, songs, spoken word, and reflections on the legacy of Dr. King echoed in the work of today.

Run of Show:

  • Community Gathering (9:30 am – 10:00 am): Community and leadership gathering to foster connections and unity.
  • Program Start (10:00 am – 11:30 am): Invocation, Song, Youth Reading, Remarks & Reflections by Community Leaders & Elected Officials
  • Celebration Walk to Gateway Mall (11:30 am – Noon): Celebrating our shared dedication to unity and positive transformation.
  • Community Choir Concert:  Showcase of choirs from Utah’s multicultural communities
  • Community Service Project hosted by Beloved Community & elected officials (Noon – 4:00 pm): Winter kits donations drop off.

About the Celebration:

The Beloved Community MLK Day Celebration Committee aims to create a platform for reflection, celebration, and community service; promoting Dr. King’s vision of Building the Beloved Community. The celebration provides an opportunity for positive dialogue and unity on issues such as Disability Equality, Economic Opportunity, LGBTQ+ Equality, Women’s Equality, Refugee/Immigrant Community, Healthcare, and more.
