The Utah State Charter School Board is pleased to announce the authorization and approval of two new public charter schools set to open in the fall of 2025. This authorization reflects a commitment to enhancing public education opportunities for students throughout the State of Utah.
The new public charter schools include ThrivePoint Academy of Utah and Virtual Horizons Charter School. ThrivePoint Academy of Utah will be an alternative hybrid model operating an in-person location in southwest Salt Lake County and providing an online option to students statewide. Virtual Horizons Charter School will be a virtual reality model open to students throughout the state; this means the school is going to use virtual reality to teach students and it would be one of the first to do so in the nation.
In addition to the approval of the new schools, the Utah State Charter School Board has also granted authorization for three new satellite campuses of existing high-performing public charter schools. These expansions will enable Lincoln Academy, Syracuse Arts Academy, and Valley Academy Charter School to extend their reach and impact within the community.
Furthermore, the Utah State Charter School Board is excited to share that two existing high-performing public charter schools will see an expansion in the number of available seats. This expansion aligns with the Utah State Charter School Board’s commitment to accommodating the growing demand for quality public education as envisioned by Gateway Preparatory Academy and Lakeview Academy.
The approval of these new schools, satellite campuses, and expanded seats represents a significant step forward in Utah’s continued commitment to enriching choices in education available to Utah families.
