Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy’s elections project to release whitepapers on election integrity

Election and voting integrity is a hot issue given the past and current presidential elections. The Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy will feature political and voting experts who will present three whitepapers on Utah’s election integrity. The presenters will review Utah’s election process, including voter access and ballot security, 2022 election results in ranked choice voting contests, and address the issue of inactive ballots.

PAPER TITLES:  

  • “Voter Access and Ballot Security,” By Dr. Kal Munis and Mikelle Dahl. Reviews Utahns’ access to the ballot and the security and counting of their ballots once their votes are cast.
  • “Election Results in Ranked Choice Voting and Voter Confidence” By Dr. Alan Parry. Analyzes the 2022 elections and the municipalities that used ranked choice voting methods.
  • “Inactive Ballots in Single Choice Vs Instant Runoff” Authored by Dr. Alan Parry and Rachel Hutchinson. Analyzes the impact of ballots that become inactive due to a voter’s choice not being selected as the winning candidate.
