The Utah Office of Energy Development (OED) has been selected to receive $62,450,000.00 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Solar For All program. Utah is proud to be one of sixty recipients.
Solar for All will increase access to the benefits of solar power for traditionally underserved and low-income communities in Utah. OED’s Solar for All program adheres to the three objectives of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund: reducing climate and air pollution, delivering benefits to low-income and disadvantaged communities, and mobilizing financing to spur additional deployment of low-cost solar energy. Additional outcomes include helping vulnerable communities gain energy independence and resiliency and improving the grid.
“We’ll be leveraging these funds to supply grants and low-cost financing for those who would normally find the cost of installing solar power prohibitive,” said Greg Todd, Director of OED. “In turn, funded projects will improve grid resiliency, lower emissions across the state, and lower monthly utility bills for program participants. Our office sees this as a win for our utilities, our air, and, most importantly, our consumers. We are still working out details with the EPA and will be sharing more information as they are finalized.”
In 2022, Utah was ninth in the nation for solar generating capacity. Solar for All will harness Utah’s abundant sunshine to continue expanding solar power access across the state, bringing this clean energy resource to those who stand the benefit the most.
