UVU Cheer Team, Dance Team and Green Man Group collectively named Game Day Division I National Champions

Hip hop and jazz dance teams place 2nd and 3rd respectively

Utah Valley University’s (UVU) Cheer Team, Dance Team, and Green Man Group were collectively named Game Day Division 1 (D-1) National Champions at the 2024 NCA Cheerleading competition in Daytona Beach, Florida last week. UVU’s Advanced D-1 All Girl Cheer team placed third.

Earlier in the year, UVU’s D-1 Hip Hop and Jazz teams placed second and third respectively at the Universal Dance Association (UDA)’s 2024 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National, held January 12-14 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

“The talent and atmosphere at the national competitions are electric,” said Kati Marsing, UVU’s Spirit Squad director. “And our students were simply amazing. They were invested in the program and started training for the competitions last summer. Their hard work, grit, and determination paid off with exceptional performances. We are very proud of them.”

The UVU cheer and dance teams are unique in that they are part of the UVU Department of Student Leadership and Involvement. The focus is not only helping the students develop their performance skills but in helping them develop leadership skills to be strong contributing members of their communities.
