Utah House Majority Whip Karianne Lisonbee issues statement in response to Utah Supreme Court decision

Representative Lisonbee, floor sponsor of S.B. 174 (2020) Abortion Prohibition Amendments, issues the following statement in response to the Utah Supreme Court’s decision:

“The Dobbs decision was a long-awaited victory for human life and correctly allows states to enact policies to protect unborn life through the legislative process. I am extremely disappointed that the Supreme Court failed to lift the preliminary injunction and has not allowed Utah’s abortion law to go into effect. Utahns deeply value human life in all stages and all circumstances. As legislators, we are committed to upholding those values in our laws. It’s deeply unfortunate that Utah’s strong pro-life law continues to be tied up in litigation more than two years after the Dobbs decision, resulting in the deaths of thousands of unborn babies in our state. We are consulting with our legal counsel on next steps for the litigation and are confident that we will ultimately prevail on the merits of the case.”
