UVU to host 2024 Conference on Mental Health

Utah Valley University’s (UVU) College of Humanities and Social Sciences announces its annual Conference on Mental Health, scheduled October 3, 2024, on the Orem Campus. It is designed for professionals, educators, and individuals interested in advancing their understanding of critical mental health issues.

The conference will feature four specialized tracks focusing on suicide prevention, addiction, depression, and anxiety. Attendees will experience a comprehensive program designed to provide educational opportunities, promote best practices, and explore cutting-edge research in mental health.

Keynote speakers for the 2024 conference include:

  • Minaa B., MSW, LMSW: A licensed social worker, mental health educator, and author of “Owning Our Struggles.” Minaa’s expertise lies in psychological safety and community care.
  • Dr. Omar Manejwala, M.D.: An addiction psychiatrist and bestselling author of “Craving: Why We Can’t Seem to Get Enough.” Dr. Manejwala brings over 15 years of experience in addressing addiction and the opioid crisis.

The event caters to a diverse audience, including psychologists, addiction treatment specialists, law enforcement officers, social workers, healthcare providers, therapists, counselors, and educators.

“Our goal is to create a dynamic and enriching experience for attendees to learn more about mental health issues in our community,” said Candida Johnson, assistant dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences at UVU. “We hope participants will leave feeling equipped with new knowledge and skills to help build bridges of understanding in their professional environments.”

The conference will be held at the Utah Valley University Grand Ballroom in the Sorensen Student Center. Virtual attendance options are available. Registration closes on September 27, 2024.
