New Associate Director of Community Services announced

Salt Lake County is pleased to announce Robert “Bobby” Sampson as the Salt Lake County Community Services associate director.

“Bobby’s years of public service with Salt Lake County, especially his policy and administration experience, will be a huge asset to our department,” said Director Robin Chalhoub, Community Services. “Bobby is joining our department in the thick of the budget season and with many great community enhancement opportunities ahead of us.”

Sampson began his public service career with Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff. During his time as a sworn law enforcement official, he oversaw budget, conducted investigations, and retired at the rank of captain. Sampson co-owned a private exam-design business for several years prior to returning to Salt Lake County in 2015. Sampson most recently served as Councilman Jim Bradley’s senior policy advisor.

“We’re excited to welcome Bobby to our leadership team and look forward to his contributions,” Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson stated. “As a former Council member, I can attest that the experience and knowledge gained in the Council Office informs my decisions.”

“I am grateful and excited to begin working with the team in the Community Services department. I learned a tremendous amount working in the Council Office, lessons that will be beneficial in this new role,” Sampson said, “However, I missed being involved in the operational side of county government. The associate director position provides the perfect opportunity for me to be more involved in providing services and programs to the citizens of Salt Lake County.”

Salt Lake County Community Services, aka, “the fun department” connects community members with arts and culture, parks and recreation, the County Library, golf, the Clark Planetarium, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Wheeler Historic Farm, Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, Art in Public Places, Zoo, Arts, and Parks (ZAP), and a whole lot more.
