The Utah Senate Democratic Caucus releases the following statement following the passing of Senator Mike Dmitrich:
“The Utah Senate Democrats mourn the loss of former Minority Leader Senator Mike Dmitrich, whose 40 years of public service were marked by a deep commitment to representing those often forgotten and disenfranchised. As a Democrat from rural Utah, he understood the importance of passing legislation that protected and uplifted his community and all Utahns. Senator Dmitrich served as Senate Minority Leader from 2001 to 2008. During his final year as leader, Highway 6 was named “Mike Dmitrich Highway” in recognition of his relentless efforts in securing funding for public safety.
“Senator Dmitrich was one of the first people I met at the start of my public service career. He taught me invaluable skills, especially the art of negotiation and collaboration across party lines—both essential to creating good public policy,” said Senate Minority Leader Luz Escamilla.
“His legacy as a rural Democrat continues to resonate today, and his contributions will always be cherished by our caucus. We honor his memory and the incredible impact he had on the state of Utah. Senator Mike Dmitrich’s obituary can be found here.”
