The Utah State Board of Education’s Farm to Fork Initiative and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food are celebrating National Farm to School Month by hosting the annual Utah Apple Crunch Day. This event will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on the West Plaza of the Utah State Capitol.
Apple Crunch Day provides students with the opportunity to learn more about where their food comes from by cycling through various stations. Kindergarteners from Canyons School District will participate in a Q&A with a Utah apple grower, engage in farm-focused activities, and sample Utah apples from the Mountainland Grower’s Cooperative.
Please note student participation is by invitation only, but we welcome attendance and observation from all community members.
“Our team has planned a wonderful day for students to learn more about Utah’s agricultural sector. Apple Crunch Day provides students with the opportunity to learn as we celebrate food education, school gardens, and lunch trays filled with healthy, local ingredients,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson.
In addition to the event at the Utah State Capitol, schools and childcare centers across the state have spent the month of October participating in taste-tests, field trips, and other learning activities that allow young Utahns to develop a stronger appreciation for local farmers and agriculture.
