Center for Creativity, Innovation and Discovery Charter School selected to represent Utah at the America Celebrates display in Washington, D.C.

The Utah State Board of Education is pleased to announce that the Center for Creativity, Innovation and Discovery (CCID), a STEM-based charter school in Providence, Utah has been invited to represent Utah by creating ornaments for the 2024 America Celebrates display. Ornaments designed by students from each state are displayed in Washington, D.C. 58 trees—one for each U.S. state and territory, and one each for the Bureau of Indian Education and the Department of Defense Education Activity–surround the National Christmas Tree at the annual America Celebrates display.

Students from two middle school multi-media classes at CCID participated in creating the ornaments following the prompt, “What makes your state beautiful?” The students in the two classes encompassed a broad range of ages and artistic abilities, which allowed for the creation of highly unique ornaments that utilized a unique stained-glass style. In all, 35 ornaments created by the CCID students will be displayed on Utah’s tree. The students hope that each ornament will encourage curiosity and an appreciation for Utah’s diverse natural landscapes.

“It’s such an honor for the Center for Creativity, Innovation and Discovery to represent Utah at the National Christmas Tree Display. I couldn’t be more thrilled for our students to have their artistry shine at this prestigious event, showcasing not just their incredible talent, but also the creativity and spirit of Utah,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson.

The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place this evening on the Ellipse at the White House and President’s Park. A replica of Utah’s tree is on display at the Center for Creativity, Innovation and Discovery in Providence.
