Utah Senate Democrats Announce 2025 General Session Priorities: Back to Basics

For years, the Utah Senate Democrats have championed the freedoms of Utahns and advocated for equity. In 2025, we reaffirm that commitment by returning to the basics. Our General Session priorities will focus on the theme: “Back to Basics—Ensuring Prosperity and Security for Every Utahn.”

As Utah experiences unprecedented growth and economic success, we challenge the state’s leaders to address a critical question: Who is Utah’s economic growth leaving behind?

“As we begin this session, we do so with excitement, caution, and resilience. We present our ‘Back to Basics’ priorities because we believe this is where true progress begins,” said Senator Luz Escamilla, Minority Leader. “Our caucus is committed to ensuring that every Utahn—regardless of where they live or their circumstances—has access to the prosperity and quality of life we are so proud of. We encourage our constituents to engage with us, and we promise to work toward a bright future for the entire state, not just a select few.”

While Utah’s economy is often celebrated as a national leader, many working families still face significant barriers to stability, such as food insecurity, unaffordable housing, childcare shortages, underfunded schools, and poor air quality.

The Utah Senate Democrats believe that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are fundamental rights for all. This session, we will focus on solutions that address the essential needs of families, empowering them to pursue happiness with confidence and security.
