UVU names Laurie Bowen as new Senior Director of the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism

Utah Valley University (UVU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurie Bowen as the new Senior Director of the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism. She officially assumed her role on March 1.

Bowen brings a wealth of experience in autism services, program development, and community engagement. With over 26 years of service in autism support and education, she has played a pivotal role in expanding resources for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. Her leadership will further the Center’s mission of providing education, support, and advocacy for those with autism.

“We are thrilled to welcome Laurie Bowen to UVU and the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism,” UVU School of Education Dean Vessela Ilieva said. “Her passion and expertise will be instrumental in advancing the Center’s initiatives and continuing our commitment to inclusion and support for the autism community.”

Bowen has held leadership positions in nonprofit organizations and educational institutions, including 18 years at UVU, where she has worked to enhance accessibility and opportunities for individuals with autism.

The last nine years she has served as the Associate Director for the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism, focused on community outreach and development. She is known for her collaborative approach and dedication to evidence-based practices that empower individuals and families.

“I am honored to move into this new role with the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism and continue and expand our reach and influence.” said Bowen. “There is a lot to do at our university, in our community and across the state. I can’t wait to get started! Together, we can foster support and belonging for our friends and families with autism.”

The Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism at UVU is committed to promoting understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with autism through education, training, and community partnerships. Under Bowen’s leadership, the Center looks forward to expanding its programs and resources to better serve students, families, and professionals.
