The Young Democrats of Utah are calling on Representatives Blake Moore (UT-01), Celeste Maloy (UT-02), Mike Kennedy (UT-03), and Burgess Owens (UT-04) to hold in-person town halls in their respective districts during the congressional recess from March 13-22.
Since taking office, Representative Maloy has ignored nearly one-third of her constituents by failing to hold even a single in-person town hall in Salt Lake County. Representative Owens hasn’t held an in-person town hall anywhere in his district for years, while Representative Kennedy has completely avoided all in-person town halls with the very voters who elected him.
“The residents of Utah’s congressional districts deserve direct engagement with their elected representatives,” said Emma Fetzer, President of the Young Democrats of Utah. “Constituents have pressing questions about their representatives’ recent voting records, particularly their support for legislation that would cut billions from veterans’ healthcare programs.”
The Young Democrats of Utah are concerned about the Utah delegation’s accountability to all their constituents, especially regarding their stance on the treatment of federal employees in their districts who are reportedly being dismissed without due process by the current administration.
“Utahns deserve to know why their representatives are standing by while hardworking federal employees in their districts are being attacked and fired without cause,” added Emma. “Town halls would provide crucial opportunities for Utah’s congressional delegation to address these concerns directly with the people they were elected to represent.”
The Young Democrats of Utah encourage all constituents to contact their representatives’ offices and respectfully request that they schedule town hall meetings during the congressional recess:
- Representative Blake Moore (UT-01): (202) 225-0453
- Representative Celeste Maloy (UT-02): (202) 225-9730
- Representative Mike Kennedy (UT-03): (202) 225-7751
- Representative Burgess Owens (UT-04): (202) 225-3011
