Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation announces generous gift to the Museum of Utah

The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation is proud to announce a $1 million donation to the Museum of Utah to help support programming and acquisition costs.

As Utah’s first state history museum, the Museum of Utah will celebrate our state’s unique history, culture and art through world-class exhibits, programming, and community spaces. Designed as a trailhead, the Museum will invite visitors to explore Utah’s past and consider their place in shaping the state’s future.

“We are honored to support the new Museum of Utah, a cornerstone for sharing our state’s rich history and culture,” said Gail Miller, chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation and co-founder of the Larry H. Miller Company. “This project is special for our family. Utah is where we built our company, raised our family, and where our grandkids and great-grandkids continue to grow. Larry always hoped to be remembered as a man who loved Utah, and that sentiment resonates deeply with all of us. It is our hope that this museum preserves and celebrates Utah’s remarkable stories, achievements, and spirit for generations to come.”

In recognition of the donation, the ‘Inspiring Utah’ gallery, will be presented by the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. ‘Inspiring Utah’ is one of four galleries that will highlight the achievements, attractions, and innovations of Utah’s rich history. Featuring memorabilia from the 2002 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, contributions from Utah’s cinematic history and more, this gallery showcases some of the elements that make Utah a great state. The ‘Inspiring Utah’ gallery reflects the Miller family’s connection to the stories told within the museum walls and as a family who loves Utah.

“We are immensely grateful to the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation for their extraordinary generosity and visionary leadership,” said Jennifer Ortiz, Utah Historical Society director. “This significant gift will be instrumental in bringing the Museum of Utah to life, ensuring that we can offer engaging and impactful exhibits and programs for years to come. The ‘Inspiring Utah’ gallery, presented by the Miller Family Foundation, will serve as a testament to their commitment to sharing Utah’s rich history with future generations.”

The Museum of Utah is expected to open in the spring of 2026 and will be operated by the Utah Historical Society. The Museum of Utah will be housed within the new North Capitol Building and serve as a future gateway to Utah’s Capitol Complex. For more information on the Museum of Utah, please visit history.utah.gov/museum.
