OED offering free licensure credits for residential builders and contractors

The Utah State Office of Energy Development (OED), in collaboration with Salt Lake Community College and the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL), is proud to announce a series of FREE online training courses for residential builders and contractors.

The free training program consists of four one-hour courses—two in English and two in Spanish—focused on the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as adopted in Utah. The program has been designed to help residential builders and contractors navigate the state’s current residential energy code and meet continuing education requirements for relicensure. Through a highly interactive and self-paced program, participants will gain a thorough understanding of key energy code provisions, compliance strategies, and best practices for residential construction.

Key Features of the Free Training Program:

  • DOPL-Accredited Courses: Participants who successfully complete a final assessment approved by Salt Lake Community College will earn one (1) DOPL continuing education credit per course.
  • Fully Funded DOPL Credits: All course completion credits are covered, removing financial barriers for builders seeking continuing education credits.
  • Bilingual Accessibility: Each course is available in both English and Spanish to serve a broader audience of builders and contractors.
  • Interactive Learning Experience: Courses include multiple-choice quizzes, vocabulary matching, and fill-in-the-blank assessments to reinforce learning. To receive credit, participants must pass all assessments, including a final knowledge test.
  • Engaging Course Design: To ensure a comprehensive understanding, learners must listen to the course audio or spend a required amount of time reviewing slide content before progressing.

“These courses are a game-changer for Utah’s residential construction industry,” said Emy Lesofski, Director of the Utah Office of Energy Development. “By making high-quality energy code training accessible online and in Spanish, we’re equipping builders with the knowledge they need to build energy-efficient homes while simplifying the path to maintaining their professional licenses.”

The free training courses are now available online, and registration is open. For more information and to enroll, visit https://utahoed.buildingmedia.com/utahoed/
