Dr. Molly Hart named State Superintendent of Public Instruction

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has named Dr. Molly L. Hart as the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction, following a month-long recruitment process by the Board’s Selection Committee, and interviews with the full Board.

“Education is the promise we make to the future,” said Dr. Hart, “as I step into this role, my mission is clear: to ensure every child in Utah, no matter their background or circumstance, has access to an excellent education. That work begins with listening—to students, to educators, to families—and building a system where every voice matters and every student can thrive.”

Dr. Hart is the Executive Director of Summit Academy and has more than 20 years of experience in education, serving in roles from teacher to principal across multiple states and grade levels. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University and has been honored with the Utah PTA Outstanding School Administrator Award. Dr. Hart is a strong advocate for student achievement and community engagement.

“The Board is excited to welcome Dr. Hart as the next Superintendent,” said Board Chair Matt Hymas. “We look forward to working as partners to continue the Board’s mission of opening doors of opportunity for all Utah children.”

Dr. Hart will succeed Dr. Sydnee Dickson as Utah’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction when she steps down next month, concluding nine years of dedicated service.
