Advisory regarding misleading mailers targeting Utah business owners

The Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Corporations and Commercial Code is issuing an important alert to business owners across the state. We have identified a series of potentially misleading mailers that are currently in circulation, which may confuse and mislead Utah business registrants.

These letters feature QR codes that direct recipients to a third-party website that closely resembles our official business registration page. This unauthorized site is attempting to charge users $175 for business renewal services, which is unnecessary.

Key Guidelines for Business Owners:

1. Always Use the Official Portal: To ensure your security, business owners should only initiate registration or renewal processes through our official website: https://corporations.utah.gov.

2. Identify Misleading Communications: If you receive any letters or emails containing a QR code or links soliciting payment, please proceed with caution. These messages likely lead to websites that are not affiliated with the Division.

3. Accessing the Legitimate Site: Should you inadvertently access the deceptive site, we recommend clearing your browser’s cache and history to navigate back to our legitimate portal.

We urge anyone who suspects they have encountered misleading communication or experiences any issues related to these mailers to report it to us via email at [email protected].

We encourage all Utah business owners to remain vigilant and ensure they are utilizing only verified and trusted channels for their business dealings.
