Salt Lake County, in partnership with organizations across the valley, will join communities around the globe in celebrating Welcoming Week September 12–21, 2025. Welcoming Week is an annual campaign that deepens understanding and connection among neighbors, highlighting the importance and value of welcoming.
The week is organized for Salt Lake County by Joseph Genda, Salt Lake County’s New American and Refugee Liaison, together with a wide network of community partners. Organizations throughout the valley will host events that celebrate culture, connection, and community. Events range from slam poetry performances and block parties to community picnics and free legal assistance with citizenship applications. See the calendar of events at slco.to/welcome.
Salt Lake County’s Signature Event:
- Welcoming Week 2025 Proclamation Reading, Naturalization Ceremony, and Resource Fair
- When: Monday, September 15, 2025, 10:00 am – Noon
- Where: Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W 3100 S, West Valley City, Utah 84119
Salt Lake County’s signature event will include the formal reading of the Welcoming Week Proclamation, signed by Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson and the mayors of cities and townships across the County. Following the reading, approximately 90 residents will take the Oath of Citizenship and be welcomed as new U.S. citizens. Local mayors and elected officials will join the celebration, and a community resource fair will connect attendees to programs and services, such as registering to vote and getting a library card.
Why: Salt Lake County is home to residents from all over the world. Welcoming Week is an opportunity to celebrate that asset, strengthen relationships between immigrants and long-time residents, and reaffirm the County’s commitment to ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging.
