The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) are celebrating National Farm to School Month by hosting the annual Utah Apple Crunch Day. This event will take place on Wednesday, October 22nd at the Utah State Capitol from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the South-West Plaza.
One hundred and fifty kindergarten students from Canyons School District will meet a local apple farmer. Students will engage in apple-themed educational activities hosted by community partners dedicated to youth health and local food. Together, students, farmers, and leaders will take a symbolic “crunch” into Utah-grown apples.
“Farm to School is more than a meal; it is an investment in Utah’s future. These programs support Utah farmers by creating new markets, strengthen our local economy, and improve student health by connecting students with fresh foods,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Molly Hart.
In addition to the event at the Utah State Capitol, schools and childcare centers across the state are spending the month of October participating in taste-tests, field trips, and other learning activities that allow young Utahns to develop a stronger appreciation for local farmers and agriculture.
