Night of Welcome: National Quilts and Collective Action Movement that began in Utah unites communities in Nashville

On Tuesday evening, September 30, from 6 PM to 6 AM, Women Building Peace and We Choose Welcome hosted the Tennessee Night of Welcome: Quilts and Collective Action, an all-night gathering of creativity, advocacy, and community. This event is part of a national Women Building Peace movement that began in Utah with a quilt-in for the constitution hosted by Mormon Women for Ethical Government and has spread with a series of interfaith and cross-partisan quilt-ins across the nation, uniting thousands together in peaceful advocacy and in defense of the constitution. In May 2025 Women Building Peace members from across country came together to quilt near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and delivered quilts to their members of Congress,

The Tennessee interfaith quilting event, held at Otter Creek Church, West End, drew quilters, advocates, artists, musicians, and neighbors from across Tennessee and beyond, highlighting interfaith and crosspartisan values, a commitment to our constitution, and creative civic engagement. Together, attendees created “advocacy quilts” stitched with the names of constituents and wrote postcards to senators and representatives, calling on leaders to protect constitutional rights.

“This was more than an event—it was a movement of neighbors standing side by side,” said a spokesperson for Women Building Peace, the national movement leading the Quilting for the Constitution: Peace by Piece campaign. “Together, we are strengthening the fabric of our nation, one stitch at a time.”
