Utah Attorney General Derek Brown announced his support for Cyndi Sharkey in Sandy’s mayoral race, citing her steady record of fiscal discipline and her long-standing service to city residents.
“Cyndi will be Sandy’s tax and budget shark,” Brown said. “She’s a true fiscal conservative who consistently opposes wasteful spending and voted against the recent property tax increases. I trust Cyndi Sharkey to protect Sandy taxpayers.”
Elected to the Sandy City Council in 2020, Sharkey has a deep understanding of city services, budgeting, and planning. She’s known for taking a careful, data-driven approach to policy decisions and for putting residents’ interests ahead of politics. Her record includes preserving the city’s Bulk Waste program, voting against four proposed tax increases, and introducing reforms that saved taxpayers millions. She also expanded the city’s ethics pledge to reduce campaign clutter and promote fair elections.
“I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of Utah’s Attorney General and to have the opportunity to continue building a city government that spends wisely, listens carefully and earns the confidence of its residents,” Sharkey said.
Sharkey has lived in Sandy for more than 25 years and previously served as a Planning Commissioner, City Council Chair and Vice Chair. She’s represented Sandy on the Utah League of Cities and Towns, the Jordan River Commission and Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District, and was awarded the Sandy City Award for Outstanding Citizen Contribution in 2017.
