The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) proudly joins the nationwide celebration of Family Engagement Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the vital role families play in student success. Beginning on November 1, USBE will launch a month-long campaign highlighting the critical impact of partnerships between schools and families.
Research consistently shows that when parents and families are actively engaged in their child’s education, attendance improves and academic achievement increases. Additionally, teacher satisfaction and student behavior improve. Throughout November, USBE will share resources, success stories, and engagement strategies for local education agencies, educators, and families to encourage increased collaboration between schools and communities.
Why Family Engagement is a Proven Multiplier for Student Success:
- Family involvement consistently boosts academic achievement. It is not a “nice to have,” it’s a data-proven growth strategy.
- Attendance improves when families are part of the equation.
- The type of engagement matters more than the amount by linking home conversations to future goals.
- Family engagement narrows achievement gaps. Schools that measure, cultivate, and sustain genuine partnerships with families consistently outperform those that don’t.Â
- It changes behavior and confidence in students.
“The strongest school systems are built on partnerships,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Molly Hart. “When parents are engaged in their child’s education, everyone benefits. This campaign is about celebrating and expanding that connection across the state.”
