Parent, legislative attorney, and longtime public education advocate Tracy J. Nuttall announced today that she is running for the Utah State Board of Education, citing a desire to bring steady, informed leadership and a clear focus on students to statewide education policy.
Nuttall is a parent of children in elementary, middle, and high school and has spent much of her legal career working on Utah public education policy. She has helped draft education legislation for the Utah Legislature and has advised the Utah State Board of Education on policy and governance. She has also been deeply involved in Alpine schools through volunteer service and community leadership.
“As a parent and an education policy attorney, I’m thrilled to use my experience to amplify our district’s needs at the State Board of Education,” Nuttall said. “Our public schools need high-quality, student-centered teaching, a safe learning environment, and better communication between parents and teachers. I’m committed to conservative values, treating everyone with dignity and respect, and using taxpayer dollars efficiently. I want to hear from families and educators across our district so I can ensure our district’s voice on the Board stays focused on kids.”
Drawing on her experience working inside state government, Nuttall views the State Board of Education as a governing body responsible for setting clear policy, maintaining high standards, and providing long-term stability for Utah’s public schools. Her background combines subject-matter expertise with a clear understanding of the real-world impact of education policy decisions.
Collaboration between families, educators, and policymakers is central to her approach. Nuttall plans to actively engage with communities and parents to listen to concerns, understand local priorities, and ensure those perspectives are reflected in statewide education decisions.
Through her candidacy, Nuttall aims to bring a steady, informed presence to the State Board—one focused on student learning, school safety, and thoughtful decision-making that supports teachers, families, and schools across Utah.
