Educator and City Council Member Kelly Smith enters Senate District 21 race pledging steady, collaborative leadership

Community leader and current Cedar Hills City Council member Kelly Smith announced today that she is running as a Republican for Senate District 21. Smith enters the race with a straightforward message focused on collaboration, transparency, and being present for the people she represents.

A longtime resident of northern Utah County, Smith brings decades of real-world experience as a former educator, small business owner, and community volunteer. She is currently serving her second term on the city council, where she has built a reputation for listening carefully, solving problems, and working constructively with residents and fellow leaders.

“I’m running because people deserve a representative who is present, responsive, and grounded in this community,” Smith said. “Good decisions happen when local voices are part of the process, and I want to make sure that perspective is represented at the Capitol.”

Smith’s campaign is focused on disciplined, practical governance. She believes effective legislation requires understanding how policies affect families and local governments in real terms, and avoiding one-size-fits-all mandates that increase costs or limit local flexibility. Her approach prioritizes responsible funding while giving communities the space to implement solutions that fit their needs.

Throughout her career, Smith has emphasized steady leadership and collaboration over political gamesmanship. Supporters frequently point to her consistent presence at community meetings, accessibility to residents, and willingness to roll up her sleeves.

“Public service means showing up, asking good questions, and doing the hard work,” Smith said. “Our families and neighbors deserve someone who takes that responsibility seriously.”

Smith’s roots in the community run deep. She is a mother of four, grandmother of seven, a small business owner, and a volunteer of more than 30 years in local schools and civic organizations. Her campaign is grounded in practical experience and a clear commitment to representing families and local leaders with integrity.

“I love where we live, and I believe our best days are ahead when leadership is thoughtful, responsive, and rooted in respect,” Smith said. “I am running to serve this community, and I would be honored to earn your trust.” For more information about Kelly Smith and her campaign, visit www.KellyForUtah.com
