McKay Jensen, longtime Provo resident and Republican, recently announced that he is running for the Utah House of Representatives in District 60, the seat currently held by Representative Tyler Clancy. Jensen said he is running to bring steady, common-sense leadership to the Legislature at a time when families are feeling squeezed by rising costs and frustrated by government that feels distant and hard to understand.
Jensen said his candidacy is rooted in deeply held values shaped early in life. “I was raised on my family’s farm, where I learned that hard work matters, money doesn’t go to waste, and you take responsibility for what you do,” Jensen said. “Those values still guide me today, and they’re the same values I believe should guide our state government.”
Jensen says his priorities include fiscal responsibility, clear and transparent decision-making, and a strong respect for local communities. He believes lawmakers owe voters straightforward explanations about how policies are developed and how public dollars are spent.
“Families in Provo are doing everything right, yet life keeps getting more expensive,” Jensen said. “Government shouldn’t add to that burden through confusing policies, hidden costs, or one-size-fits-all mandates. We need leaders that focus on accountability, clarity, and focus on doing the basics well.”
Jensen has emphasized affordability and housing as top issues for District 60, saying growth must be managed responsibly and in a way that fits the community.
“I believe in growth that makes sense for Provo,” he said. “Protecting neighborhoods, keeping taxes and fees predictable, and making sure growth pays for itself are essential principles, and they matter to the future of our city.”
Jensen said he will run a campaign focused on listening, collaboration, and problem-solving.
“The best ideas come from honest conversation,” Jensen said. “I want to hear from people across the community, work through differences thoughtfully, and focus on solutions that reflect real needs.”
