The Utah Supreme Court’s decision is a resounding victory for voters and fair elections. Prop 4 was passed to end partisan gerrymandering and put power back in the hands of the people, and today the courts made it clear: lawmakers cannot ignore the law to protect their own political interests. Attempts to delay fair maps have failed.
Utahns deserve elections that reflect their communities, not the ambitions of politicians. For too long, lawmakers have drawn maps to protect incumbents and suppress competition. Prop 4 was designed to stop that, and this ruling shows that voter-approved reforms have teeth.
