Larry H. Miller annual Week of Service helps restore Jordan River and strengthen communities nationwide

Employees reach 2,400 service hours and volunteer in Utah and 14 other states

Guided by Larry H. Miller’s mantra of “go about doing good until there’s too much good in the world,” the annual Larry H. Miller Week of Service mobilized thousands of employees to participate in service projects across Utah and 14 other states.

On April 28, employees from the Larry H. Miller Company, the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, Miller Sports + Entertainment and Larry H. Miller Real Estate gathered at the Jordan River (near the Power District) to clean up debris in the river and remove invasive weeds and trash from the riverbank. My Hometown Salt Lake City and the Jordan River Commission partnered with the LHM Company in organizing and executing the project.

“The Larry H. Miller Week of Service always serves as a powerful reminder that our greatest strength as an organization is our people,” Steve Starks, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Company, said. “I’m grateful for our employees who give their time and energy to serve others and, in doing so, help fulfill our mission of enriching lives.”

After Larry H. Miller’s passing in 2009, the Miller family established a tradition to honor his legacy. Every April, employees across the LHM Company trade office time for service hours with local nonprofit organizations in the communities where they live, work and play.

Larry H. Miller Real Estate recently announced a partnership with Field Operations, the renowned landscape architecture and urban design firm behind New York City’s High Line, to lead the restoration of a one-mile loop of the Jordan River. LHM Week of Service volunteers helped advance the vision of a safer, healthier Jordan River.

In addition to opportunities to serve with the company throughout the year, employees at the Larry H. Miller Company also have access to the Service Time Off benefit, which provides paid time to volunteer with organizations and causes close to their hearts.

“Service has always been at the heart of our family and this organization,” said Steve Miller, Chairman of the Board at the Larry H. Miller Company. “I’m grateful for the thousands of hours our teammates give each year to enrich lives in the communities we’re proud to call home.”

In addition to efforts on the Jordan River, employees also made fleece blankets for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The blankets will be distributed in November during the Larry H. Miller Season of Service Thanksgiving event.

“I have always believed that love is best expressed through service,” Gail Miller, co-founder of the LHM Company, said. “To love our neighbors is to serve them, and when we take the time to serve, we help build the kind of communities where everyone feels valued and cared for.”

Other Utah projects included Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC players spending time with local youth at the Miller Boys & Girls Club, volunteers supporting families and staff at Primary Children’s Hospital, and volunteers partnering with the Jordan Education Foundation.

This week’s efforts spread far outside of the Beehive State. In Arizona, Advanced Health Care of Mesa volunteered at a local farm animal sanctuary, and in Virginia, Larry H. Miller Senior Health partnered with the Ronald McDonald House to cook dinner for children and families in residence.

At every project across the country, participants sported matching Larry H. Miller Week of Service T-shirts.
