Utah’s employment increased by 3.1 percent in 2018 with an annual average increase of 3.3 percent according to a new report from Governing magazine.
Those strong numbers were good enough to rank Utah 2nd in 2018, just behind Nevada which recorded a 3.9 percent increase.
Utah’s average increase in 2018 was higher than 2016-2017, which saw a 2.9 percent increase. Utah’s employment increase was higher in 2015-2016 and 2014-2015 which saw 3.5 and 3.8 percent increases.
Utah’s job growth outpaced Washington (3.0% increase), Idaho (2.9% increase) and Texas (2.9% increase). Two states saw negative job growth. Vermont’s employment decreased -0.1 percent and Alaska was down -0.5 percent.
