Rep. Chris Stewart said on Wednesday he hasn’t seen enough information to determine whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice by attempting to stifle the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
Stewart was a guest on CNN’s “New Day” when he was asked to comment on reports that former FBI Director James Comey will say President Trump asked him to back off the probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“I think if the president inappropriately tried to interfere with any type of investigation that he should be held accountable for that,” Stewart said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“Is it illegal? Is is obstruction? I don’t know the answer to that. I don’t think we have near enough information to draw that conclusion yet.”
Earlier this week, the Washington Post reported that Trump also asked National Intelligence Director Dan Coates to pressure the FBI to back off the probe into Flynn.
