Becky Edwards, a former Utah State Representative and U.S. Congressional candidate, announces the formation of the Governing Group PAC. This new political action committee is committed to electing leaders within the state of Utah who focus on pragmatic solutions rather than partisan conflict, with the goal of transforming the state’s political dynamics.
Under Edwards’ direction, the PAC will support Republican and Unaffiliated candidates, providing financial and organizational assistance to both veteran and emerging leaders. A significant focus will be on mentoring and empowering new candidates, especially fostering the growth of women legislators. The PAC’s approach goes beyond financial aid, aiming to develop leaders committed to constructive and collaborative governance, thus combating divisive rhetoric and enhancing statewide political engagement.
Edwards shares, “My dedication to a better future for all Utahns is stronger than ever, and in response to increasing political divisiveness, the Governing Group PAC will champion civil discourse and effective problem solving over partisan standoffs. We’re building a movement for principled leadership and impactful legislation.”
Edwards has a track record of ambitious and successful fundraising. During her congressional race, Edwards notably raised over half a million dollars in just over 12 weeks, with more than sixty percent of those dollars coming from women alone. This same drive and ability to garner support and interest are expected to be a cornerstone of the Governing Group’s approach, underscoring its commitment to fostering community engagement.
To jumpstart its efforts, the Governing Group has set a fundraising goal of $50,000 for the 2024 elections, bolstered by an initial $14,000 donation from Utah Conservative Values Project. Edwards calls on Utahns who desire a civil and results-focused, political climate to support the committee, either through donations or volunteering. “Community involvement, both financially and through time, is vital for cultivating an environment that values effective solutions and positive change,” she states.
