2016 Election Projections: Utah State Senate

Utah State CapitolThere are 15 seats up for election in the Utah State Senate in 2016. Our projections expect exactly zero of them to change party control this year.

Our UtahPolicy.com race ratings for the Utah Senate show that Democrats should hang on to their lone seat up for election, currently occupied by Luz Escamilla. Republicans are favored to win the other 14 elections this November.

There are two seats that might be closer than expected. In Senate District 7, Democrat Selena Milner may give incumbent Republican Wayne Harper a tough race this year, but we believe he will hang on.

Senate District 20 is an open seat following the retirement of Sen. Scott Jenkins. However, we think the Republican candidate will be able to win the seat come November.
