The Utah Democratic Party announced a change on the ballot in the race for Utah House District 10.
Jesse Garcia, currently an Ogden City Councilmember, withdrew from the race due to health issues after his doctor deemed him unable to mount a campaign this year, and Eric Irvine will run for the seat. Irvine previously ran for HD10 against Dixon Pitcher in 2014. Irvine garnered 43% of the vote, in spite of being outspent two to one, and in a year that saw record low turnout for Democrats in Utah.
Utah Democratic Party Chair Peter Corroon said, “We wish Jesse the best as he recovers and are thrilled to have Eric Irvine running again on the Democratic ticket. As a retired Salt Lake City detective and former Chair of the Weber County Education caucus, Eric is truly a man of the people. I know he will represent the voters of House District 10 well. Eric is ready to hit the ground running, and he has our full support.”
