Local Cops Grow Beards and Raise Money in Support of The Utah 1033 Foundation

Throughout October and November, several members of Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Park City Police Department showed their support of The Utah 1033 Foundation by growing out their beards to raise more than $3,600 for the organization.

The foundation is dedicated to providing immediate financial support to the families of Utah’s fallen law enforcement officers and presenting college scholarships to the children of active Utah officers.

Nearly sixty officers from Summit County Sheriff’s Office entered the end-of-year beard-growing contest in October by paying for a $33 Beard Permit. At the end of the growing season, photos were taken of the final beard growth and employees had the opportunity to choose the best and worst beards by voting with dollars. Those proceeds were added to the final donation to The Utah 1033 Foundation.

“This is the third year of our annual beard growing contest,” said Lt. Andrew Wright of Summit County Sheriff’s Office. “Each year we sell more and more Beard Permits at the beginning of the growing season. Deputies enjoy the freedom of growing some great, and not-so-great beards or mustaches, all while donating to, what we consider, the most important cause of all, The Utah 1033 Foundation.”

Edward Esber, a Sheriff’s Advisory Board member and his wife, Margaret Esber responded to the friendly contest by matching Summit County Sheriff’s Office $1,854  donation increasing it to $3,708. Park City Police Department continues to grow their beards for the Utah 1033 Foundation and anticipates a donation in January.

“We love our law enforcement family,” said Tore Steen, founder of The Utah 1033 Foundation. “They work day-in and day-out to protect and serve our communities. Thank you to Edward and Margaret Esber as well as to all of our law enforcement community for your tremendous love, support and service to us and the place we all call home.”
