No Official Hashtag for Utah this Year

HashtagThe “official” state hashtag is dead for this year.

Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, tells UtahPolicy.com he’s abandoning his effort to set #Utah, #SkiUtah and #VistUtah as the official state hashtags this year.

“The fact that the resolution was not prioritized last year was a pretty good signal that it wasn’t going to be high on the list this year,” said Weiler. “Besides, we’ve got a lot more important issues to deal with.

Last year, Weiler’s resolution made it through the Senate but was killed in the waning days of the 2016 session.

Perhaps abandoning the effort to set an official hashtag for Utah is a blessing in disguise. The short history of social media is replete with examples of hashtags that got hijacked and turned into something decidedly different than what was intended. Just ask McDonald’s.
