President Donald Trump will sit down with Rep. Jason Chaffetz in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
The Hill reported the meeting on Monday evening, saying the meeting was on the White House daily schedule for Tuesday, but there was no information on what would be discussed.
The meeting is notable because Chaffetz has broad powers to investigating waste, fraud and abuse across the federal government.
Last month, he said he’d requested the federal government’s contract with Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel amid questions about whether Trump is violating the lease agreement.
Democrats have raised questions about the new Trump International Hotel that occupies the historic Old Post Office building, which is owned by the federal government. Trump’s contract with the General Services Administration prohibits elected officials from being a party to the lease or benefitting from it and Democrats have called on the GSA to clarify whether Trump has violated the terms of his lease agreement.
Chaffetz has also said his committee has no plans to investigate Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of rampant voter fraud during the 2016 election.
