Governor Names New Director of Communication

Governor Gary R. Herbert has named Marty Carpenter to his senior staff as director of communication.

“Marty benefits from a deep understanding of our goals as an administration and state, a strong relationship with the media, and he has proven to be a valuable member of our team before,” said the Governor. “He is the perfect fit for the position.”

Carpenter has served as the executive vice president of communication for the Salt Lake Chamber, the state’s largest business association, after returning from a leave of absence to work on the Governor’s campaign in 2012 as the campaign spokesperson. Prior to joining the campaign, he was the Chamber’s director of communication, a position he held since 2008.

“Gov. Herbert is a principled leader who has consistently made the tough decisions to strengthen Utah’s economy,” said Carpenter. “I am excited to play a role in an administration focused on solidifying Utah’s position as the best state to do business and to elevating our quality of life.”

Carpenter fills the role vacated by Ally Isom, who stepped down last month.

Before joining the Salt Lake Chamber, Carpenter worked in television news in Tulsa, Okla. and Topeka, Kans. He is a graduate of Weber State University. A resident of Syracuse, Utah, Carpenter and his wife, Nicole, have four children.
