Long-time Utah Policy contributor Jared Whitley was honored recently for his work on the site.
He received two awards from the Top of the Rockies, regional competition held annually for news outlets in the Western United States.
For his political columns, Top of the Rockies awarded Whitley 2nd place in both the print: editorial category and the online: blog categories. Whitley’s columns last year covered a variety of topics, but his op-ed “Attacking Christopher Columbus is racist” was among those both awards recognized.
“I am very flattered to be recognized this way – 2016 had no shortage of political grist to help our readers digest,” Whitley said. “I appreciate the chance I’ve had to share my observations through Utah Policy for so long and hope to be able to do so for long to come.”
Whitley has been a part-time contributor to Utah Policy as its Washington contributor since 2007 when he blogged about his deployment to the Iowa Caucuses for the Romney campaign. He has previously won awards from the Best of the West for column-writing in 2016 and for blogging from the Utah Society of Professional Journalists in 2011 and 2012.
