Podcast: Bernick and Schott on politics #330

Bob Bernick and Bryan Schott discuss another tumultuous week in Utah Politics.

2017 was supposed to be a boring political year!

UtahPolicy.com broke the news this week that Sen. Orrin Hatch was leaning toward retiring instead of running for another term and Mitt Romney was very interested in running for that seat. If that plays out, it could be game over for the 2018 Utah Senate race because Utahns love them some Mitt Romney.

The candidates are piling up in the special election in Utah’s 3rd Congressional District. Signature-gathering candidates are going to have to spend a lot of money to get on the ballot. If one or more of them get on, it could be a game changer.

Rob Anderson, the new chairman of the Utah GOP, is dealing with mountains of debt. It’s an absolute shame that the Utah Republican Party, supposedly the party of fiscal responsibility, allowed things to get this bad.

President Donald Trump continues to prove we have the equivalent of a toddler as head of state, but at least he didn’t body slam a reporter.

Plus, Bob imitates one of Bryan’s dogs and Bryan does a touching tribute to the 1975 Broadway musical “A Chorus Line.”
